2025 Try Bowls Activator Recruitment
Bowls is one of the biggest participation sports in Scotland with over 800 clubs and 50,000 members. Over the last two years, we have recruited eight Try Bowls Activators (TBA’s) as part of a 3-year (2023-2026) commitment to provide strong, meaningful, localised support for clubs. Specifically, community to club transition, retention, and membership growth in addition to the support provided by our wonderful National Development Officers.
Our ambition is to have 16 TBA’s in place by the end of 2025. TBA’s are voluntary positions, however clothing, IT equipment, coaching qualifications and travel expenses will be paid.
Here’s one of our existing TBA’s Bob McChristie and Bowls Scotland National Development Officer, Holly Hamilton, to tell you a bit more about the roles.
We encourage applications from all sectors of the bowling community and would particularly welcome applications from females, rural communities and people with a disability, as underrepresented groups in the bowing workforce.
For more information on the roles or to apply, please visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3KX7DM9
Applications will be open all year, and all applicants will be contacted by their NDO for a discussion about the role.

Scottish Disability Sport Week 2023 - Rosemary Lenton
As we partner with Scottish Disability Sport and the wider sporting network for #ScottishDisabilitySportWeek, we are pleased to share a video from ITV Borders which features one of our most inspiring athletes, Rosemary Lenton.
At 74-years-old Rosemary has shown no signs of slowing down as she won gold in the Para Women’s Pairs at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games alongside Pauline Wilson. The same pairing then travelled to Australia earlier this year for the 2023 World Bowls Championships and returned home with a silver medal.
In the winter, Rosemary turns her attention to curling and has competed in numerous major championships over the years. It’s amazing to see the wider sporting community also recognise Rosemary’s remarkable achievements as she was crowned Para Athlete of the Year at the Scottish Women in Sport Awards in 2022.
The outdoor bowling season re-commences in Scotland in April 2024. If you are keen to get involved, find your local club on our website here: https://www.bowlsscotland.com/club-finder. Contact us via [email protected] if you require further information.
