GP COMMITTEE STATEMENT – Re: CORONAVIRUS-COVID 19

Following an emergency meeting of the General Purposes Committee on Wednesday, 18^th March 2020 and in light of the latest Government advice regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Committee has taken the following decisions regarding the 2020 season:

1. Meetings etc.

The Management Committee Meeting / Special General Meeting scheduled for 27^th March 2020 has been postponed. Likewise, the unfurling of the League flag scheduled to be held at Pickie Bowling Club on 17^th April 2020 has also been postponed.

2. Leagues, Cups and Championships

All of the above have been postponed until further notice. Committee appreciates that this will be a big disappointment to bowlers and clubs. So, subject to any restrictions that may or may not be in place, Committee will keep under review the feasibility of running a competitive tournament later on in the season.

3. Finance

In support of Clubs at this difficult time, the NIPGBL will not be issuing invoices in respect of those fees which are normally collected at this time of the year.  We would encourage all players and club members to support their clubs through this difficult period

We are currently seeking clarification as to what financial assistance may be available to Clubs during the current crisis. Should any be identified you will be advised accordingly.

The General Purposes Committee would stress that these decisions have not been taken lightly but have been made having given due consideration to all factors including Government guidance but most importantly, the health of players, officials and supporters.

Future Communication

Government announcements will be monitored and, where considered appropriate, relevant information will be communicated to Clubs.
